Carwash to Raise Funds for Sheriff's Medical Expenses

 

BYRON, GA.--Carwash Fundraiser:

Location: Advanced Auto Parts, 104 Ga Highway 49 South, Byron, GA

Date: Saturday, February 25, 2012

Time: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

This carwash is to raise money to help with Deputy Sheriff Alton Young’s medical expenses. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in November 2011.  He's been with the Peach County Sheriff's department since 2009. In March, he will be going to Emory in Atlanta.

All carwashes are free, but donations will be greatly appreciated. ALL proceeds will go directly to Deputy Sheriff Alton Young at the end of the fundraiser.

Volunteers for the car wash are welcome. Please contact Donnie Parker 678-776-6010 for scheduling.

Railroad Upgrades Mean State Route Detour

 

PEACH COUNTY, GA. – The Georgia Department of Transportation announces today that NFS Railroad has scheduled crews to upgrade the railroad crossing rails on SR 49 and also at the intersection of SR 49 and Wye Street in Fort Valley, a GDOT news release says.

SR 49 will be closed and detoured beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 9 through 8 a.m., Wednesday, January 11.

The detour route will be signed and clearly marked to guide motorists through the area.  Motorists are urged to drive carefully and stay alert as they travel through this area and use alternate routes if possible.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes.

Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather.

Georgia Department of Transportation is conducting an online survey to determine Central Georgia's transportation needs.

The purpose of the study: 

 this study will be the first holistic look at traffic and goods movement across this portion of the state and will build off of the accomplishments and lessons learned from previous transportation studies. The study includes thorough analysis of operational and capacity needs to improve safety, freight movements, person mobility, and connectivity across Central Georgia through the year 2035.

Byron Christmas Parade Saturday

The Byron Christmas Parade brings Santa and Mrs. Claus through Byron on Saturday, December 3 at 1 p.m.

This year’s theme is Winter Wonderland.

 

The parade route begins on White Road andLinda Drive to Hwy 49 then over the 42bridge, onto Moseley Road and up MainStreet back to the Byron Elementary School. If you'd like your group to partcipate in the parade, call 478-956-5555.Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three floats!

Fort Valley's Annual Christmas Parade brings Christmas cheer through Fort Valley Saturday December 3.

The parade is from 5-7 p.m. and is sponsored by the Fort Valley Lions Club.
