PEACH COUNTY, GA. – The Georgia Department of Transportation announces today that NFS Railroad has scheduled crews to upgrade the railroad crossing rails on SR 49 and also at the intersection of SR 49 and Wye Street in Fort Valley, a GDOT news release says.

SR 49 will be closed and detoured beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 9 through 8 a.m., Wednesday, January 11.

The detour route will be signed and clearly marked to guide motorists through the area.  Motorists are urged to drive carefully and stay alert as they travel through this area and use alternate routes if possible.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes.

Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather.
