Fort Valley State University Quarterback Suspended

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) starting quarterback Eugene Smith has been suspended from the team for violation of team rules according to announcement made earlier today by Wildcat Head Coach Donald Pittman.

Smith’s suspension is immediate and means that the junior will not participate nor represent FVSU in the team’s first appearance in the Pioneer Bowl on Saturday, December 4th in Columbus, Georgia.

“Our team rules are designed to make every player accountable to his teammates, the institution, and most of all to himself,” Pittman said.  “Since a large part of our mission is to foster the personal growth of our players and groom them into mature role models, we take very seriously any infraction of our rules that run contrary to this goal.”

Smith’s suspension comes just days prior to the football season finale for FVSU.  The Wildcats will meet the Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Bowl XII.

The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Football Program invites all supporters of FVSU athletics to join in watching the NCAA Division II Football Playoff Selection Announcements on ESPNEWS on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium.

The viewing party will begin at 1 p.m. with music, games and trivia contests. Events will be followed by the live feed of the selections from the four regions at 3 p.m.

The nationwide televised broadcast of the announcement of the 24 team (six teams per region) field will be carried live on the FVSU in-stadium jumbotron.

Currently ranked seventh in the NCAA Super Region 2, the Wildcats could be selected for the playoffs.
