'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' Actress Headlines FVSU Motivation Task Force

 

At Fort Valley State University’s annual Ralph P. Malone Youth Motivation Task Force, successful alumni return to The Valley to change the lives of high school and college students. For three days, they share stories about their professions and how they overcame challenges to make their dreams a reality.

During the April 16-18 event, a special guest will also challenge students to aim for the stars.

Several workshops that may normally cost a couple of hundred bucks are being offered at Fort Valley State University for $10.

On April 2 - 3, nationally-known Will Allen of the nonprofit organization Growing Power Inc. will be sharing his knowledge with agriculturalists and farmers. Allen, who’s been featured on CNN and visited by first lady Michelle Obama, uses, and educates others, about economical farming systems.

On April 2, from 1:30 – 5 p.m., at FVSU’s Pettigrew Center, Allen will address such topics as growing mushrooms, extending the growing season with hoop houses and using worms to improve soil quality. The second half of the session will be hands-on demonstrations at the greenhouse complex on campus.

The public is invited to Fort Valley State University March 26, at 1 p.m., to participate in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, FVSU President Larry E. Rivers and agriculture experts from the community.

At the Agricultural Technology Conference Center, they will discuss the university and issues related to the agriculture industry. The center is located at 46 Camp John Hope Road in Fort Valley, Ga.

FVSU to Hold Third Annual Research Day Conference

 

Throughout human history, the world‘s most explosive scientific, technological and social innovations were spurred by the tenacious determination of courageous, curious researchers willing to stretch the boundaries of established knowledge.  

On Thursday, April 11, Fort Valley State University’s top, trailblazing researchers will continue testing the frontiers of scholarship during the third annual Research Day Conference, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the C.W. Pettigrew Center. This exciting, cross-disciplinary event will highlight the latest scholarship from the university’s brightest student scholars and faculty.

Dr. Cheryl Swanier, FVSU’s Research Day committee chair, says the event will showcase the life-changing research being at the university.

Voters will be casting their ballot for a penny tax in Crawford County.

Crawford is voting on a special purpose local options sales tax to fund education projects, or SPLOST.

The last day to vote is March 19.
