Fort Valley State Wildcats Set for Annual Scrimmage

 

FORT VALLEY, GA (August 13, 2012) -- On Saturday, August 18, 2012, the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Wildcats Football Team will hold its annual football scrimmage. The public and media are invited to FVSU’s Wildcat Stadium from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. to watch the intra-squad match up.  Admission to the game is free of charge.
  
The Wildcats kick off the 2012 campaign on Saturday, September 1st at 1 p.m. (CST) against the Statesmen of Delta State University at McCool Stadium in Cleveland, MS.  The Wildcats, who finished the 2011 season 2-8 overall, 2-5 in the SIAC, are led by four Preseason All-SIAC honorees. Wide receiver Christopher Slaughter was named to the First Team Offense while running back Travis Richmond and offensive linemen David Garbo and Ryan Hill were selected to the Second Team Offense. Richmond was also named to the Second Team Special Teams.

FORT VALLEY, GA (August 13, 2012) – Fort Valley State University's (FVSU) Interim Director of Athletics, Mr. Willie Williams, has named Dwain Powe as the Lady Wildcats Head Volleyball Coach. Powe assumes the head coaching position after a two-year stint as assistant coach.
 
“We are pleased that Coach Powe has accepted our offer to elevate him to the head coaching position of our volleyball program. He did an outstanding job as an assistant coach and I am brimming with confidence that his work ethic and student-centered approach will carry over to his new position. He brings with him a wealth of coaching experience in volleyball and other sports and the attitude of a winner.”

Peach County Schools Open Houses Set for End of August

 

Peach County Schools will hold its Open House for ALL parents and students Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., according to a Peach County schools news release.

School supply lists are on each school’s website.  School starts September 4.

Operation Back to School: Help WMAZ Donate Supplies

On Thursday, 13WMAZ's employees will stand out at Walmarts all across central Georgia to help provide school supplies for kids in need. 

 

Folks can pick up a few extra school supplies and toss them in the drop-off carts at the front of the stores between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
