Auburn quarterback cited for marijuana in Reynolds, Taylor counties

Auburn University quarterback Nick Marshall was cited for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana in Reynolds, Taylor County.

According to Police Chief Lonnie Holder, the former Wilcox County High School standout was pulled over at 1:19 p.m. Friday for having a tinted windshield.

He was driving east on Georgia Highway 96 on the east side of Reynolds -- a town of about 1,000 people, halfway between Macon and Columbus.

Houston County retired superintendent was also elected to the vice chair position for 2014-2015.

Twiggs County resident and retired educator, Sarah Hawthorne, was named as the chair of CGTC's Board of Directors.

According to a release, she also served as the vice chair of the Board in the past year, when CGTC and MGTC merged.

She'll serve a one-year term.

CGTC's board of directors is comprised of a group of business leaders from the eleven counties CGTC serves in Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Dooly, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam and Twiggs counties.

CGTC Titans hosting camp for Twiggs County youth

50 Twiggs County kids will participate in a week-long basketball camp at the Macon Promise Center.

Central Georgia Technical College Titans put on the camp and kids will also hear speeches from retired FVSU coach Lonnie Brantley as well as a former NBA player Sharone Wright, according to a release.

Students who attend will also get to tour the CGTC campus.

Georgia Cyber Academy graduates first class

Georgia Cyber Academy graduates first class

(WXIA) -- The Class of 2014 is the very first class to graduate from Georgia Cyber Academy, the state's free online public school.

The school will hold a graduation ceremony at noon on Saturday, May 31 at the Gwinnett Center. More than 300 graduating seniors are scheduled to walk across the stage.

"We're so proud of each of our graduates, all of whom have taken the individualized learning that comes with GCA's online curriculum and worked with GCA's world-class teachers to adapt it to best serve and support their own academic successes," GCA head of school Matt Arkin said in a release.
