Murell L. Turner

Murrell L. Turner, 79, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 25, 1932 in McRae, Georgia he was the son of a sharecropper living on various farms all over Georgia. With pride and honor, Murrell served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1955. Subsequent to his military enlistment, he worked as a civil servant at Robins Air Force Base for a short period of time. He retired from Sears after twenty five years of service where he was employed as a Delivery Driver. He was of the Baptist faith. Murrell adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening. His parents, brothers; Massey, Aubrey and Henry, all preceded him in death.

Luther Bennett (Benny) Lewis, Jr. 72, of Byron, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011. A celebration of life will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola, Peake Road. Burial will be private. Reverend Sidney McCloud will officiate. Born in Milan, Georgia, he is the son of the late L.B. and Dorothy Carpenter Lewis. He was a retired electrician with the I.B.E.W. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dave Lewis, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Debra Clanton Lewis of Byron, Ga.; Children, Sandy Lewis(Frank) Williams of Danville, Ga; Shawn Clanton(Marie) of Byron, Ga.; Luther Bennett Lewis, III of Dry Branch, Ga.; Jimmy Lewis of Dry Branch, Ga.; David(Rosie) Lewis of Gray, Ga.; Scotty (Laurie) Lewis of Dry Branch, Ga.; Christie Hamilton Marsh of Macon, Ga. 15 Grandchildren and 14 great Grandchildren. Sister, Bessie Lewis Stewart of Macon, Ga. Numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and his faithful companion, Precious.

Bertha F. Collins

 

Mrs. Bertha F. Collins, 86, of Cochran passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Byron, Georgia. She was born Bertha Mae Fountain on December 8, 1924 to the late Charlie Frank and Annie Collins Fountain. In 1943, she

married the late David Leonard “Son” Collins, a marriage that lasted 48 years. For over

20 years, they owned and operated Collins Gulf Service Station and Grocery, Collins Fried Chicken and Collins Florist in Jeffersonville, Georgia. Mrs. Collins served on the Twiggs County Board of Health and attended The Jeffersonville Church of God.

Bertha enjoyed time with her family, gardening, entertaining, traveling reading and learning. She received her GED in her late fifties. She will be remembered by many for her gentle, caring ways, her kindness and love for all those she knew.

Woody G. Hudgens Jr.

Woody G. Hudgens Jr.

Woody G. Hudgens, Jr., 45, entered into rest on June 9, 2011. Woody was born on May 8, 1966 in Macon, Georgia. He was a 1984 graduate of Gilead Christian Academy, a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Georgia Tactical Officer's Association. Woody served seventeen years at the Warner Robins Police Department as a member of the S.W.A.T. team and as a bicycle officer before joining the Centerville Police Department three years ago. In Centerville, he worked as a patrol sergeant, a bicycle officer, and a certified police instructor with a specialization in defensive tactics. Woody loved his church, his family, and his community. A cyclist, he rode his bicycle across the state of Georgia for six years in a row, raising funds for the Special Olympics. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Beverly Jo Couture Hudgens, Davenport, Florida; parents, Woodfin G.

Dorothy Davis

 Mrs. Dorothy F. Davis, 74, of Byron, Georgia, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, after an extended illness. Services will be held at Macon Memorial Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2:00PM. Visitation will be between 6:00-8:00PM on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Family may be contacted at 819 Elwood Circle, Byron, Georgia 31008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 277 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Suite 201, Macon, Georgia 31201.

Mrs. Davis, a native of Macon, Georgia, was the daughter of the late Charlie E. Fair and the late Estelle Barnes Fair.

She was the owner of Macon Personnel Services for many years, and worked for Burns Brick Company, the Bibb Company, Crandall and Goldsmith Personnel Services, and Anserfone Services. In addition, she was a former apartment complex assistant manager, and an Avon representative.

Robert Eugene Fuguitt

 

Robert Eugene Fuguitt, 93, passed away at Perry Hospital on Monday, May 9, 2011, after a brief illness. Graveside Services will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Fort Valley Presbyterian Church, 207 Central Avenue, Ft. Valley, Georgia 31030.
