'Dukes' Reunion Expected to Snarl Traffic | News
Peach County's sheriff making plans to handle thousands of good old boys and girls -- and their wheels.
Sheriff Terry Deese on Friday released his plan for handling traffic at the Dukes of Hazzard Reunion at the Middle Georgia Speedway on Highway 41.
Deese expects the biggest traffic crunch when Friday and Saturday night's concerts let out.
He's put some traffic restrictions into effect. They'll start around 10-30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and last until the speedway's parking lot is clear or 1 a.m., whichever occurs first.
- During that time, no traffic will be allowed onto Highway 41 south from Highway 49.
- And drivers who leave the speedway parking lot's south exit will have to drive south on 41. Those drivers can travel south to Ga 247 Connector to get to Warner Robins or Byron or I-75.
- People who leave from the speedway's north exit will have to turn north on 41 toward Macon. People who are headed north at the US 41-Ga. Highway 49 intersection will be directed north on 49 toward Bibb County.
- Drivers who leave the raceway from the Highway 49 exit will have to turn south on 49 toward Byron.
But Deese says traffic should be heavy all weekend around the speedway.
If you're not headed to the reunion, he says, avoid the area if you can.
