Legendary FVSU Coach Announces Resignation

He's been a career Fort Valley State Wildcat since his days as a student in 1977.

Upon his graduation, he became the Women's Head Basketball coach.

Now 29 years and more than 600 wins later, Coach Lonnie Bartley is calling it quits.

"It's going to be tough", Bartley admits. "Once you've done something so long and this is my alma mater I love it here. Anything with blue and gold on it which are my favorite colors I guess, it reminds me so much of Fort Valley State. Some people think because we're having a rough year I'm retiring, but nobody wants to retire on a rough year. Everybody wants to go out on a good note. I know i'm going to miss it. All good things have to come to an end."

Bartley says Saturday will be his last home game coaching for the Cats. They host rival Albany State. During his 29 year career, Bartley has only had 1 losing season in the blue and gold.

The SIAC tournament starts on Monday.
