Peach County High Mourning ROTC Captain
News

Peach County High School is mourning the death of a 17-year-old senior and ROTC officer.

He is Thomas "Bobby" Harbin, according to a message to parents from the school.

Peach County coroner Kerry Rooks said Harbin committed suicide Tuesday.

The school and community will remember him in two events this week:

A community prayer service will be held at the Fort Valley United Methodist Church tonight, Wednesday, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

And there will be a memorial service Thursday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins.

The message from Principal Bruce Mackey, released to the media Wednesday afternoon, said, "He was a high ranking student officer in the program. He was well liked by all who came in contact with him. He was a very personable and solid academic student.

Mackey adds: "A sudden loss like this definitely has affected our entire school. Counselors, social workers, and additional team members from across the district have come together to counsel our students. The counselors will be available during the memorial services. In lieu of flowers, the Harbin's would like for donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in honor of Bobby."

Harbin will receive his diploma posthumously at graduation in May, according to Mackey.

He adds, "If there is any sunshine in this dark moment, it would be the fact that Bobby was an organ donor, and his heart was given to save the life of a 14 year old girl."
