FVSU Players Honored by SIAC | News
FORT VALLY, Ga. (School Release)-- After a convincing 38-12 win over the Hornets of Concordia College in its homecoming football game on Saturday (October 13th), two members of the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) have been selected as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Players of the Week.
Wide receiver Christopher Slaughter has been named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week. The senior, selected to the AFCA Preseason All-American Team, had a career day with 10 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-3 deep threat target from Fort Valley, GA scored touchdowns on receptions of 62 and 14 yards. Slaughter leads the SIAC in receiving yards per game with an average of 85.71 yards per game. He's currently ranked 37th in the nation in the same category.
FVUS's Marquis Franklin was named SIAC Offensive Lineman of the Week. A native of Tyler, TX, Franklin dominated Concordia's defensive ends in a game in which the Wildcats amassed 434 yards of total offense. In an effort to protect FVSU quarterback Antonio Henton, Franklin, a 6'8, 360lb mammoth right tackle, played a vital role in the Wildcats offensive line yielding only one quarterback sack on 34 passing attempts.
