Event Raises Money for St. Jude's Research Hospital

People in Fort Valley hit the trails and saddled up Saturday for a good cause.

Fort Valley University held a fundraiser featuring pony rides, hay rides, horse feeding and barrel racing aimed at raising money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

Kids got the chance to take pony rides, chow down on some good eats, and race across the fields.

The student equestrian and animal science clubs at Fort Valley University held the event.

The festivities cost between $1 and $15.

"I think its important that we continue doing research for cancer and helping others just in general," said charity participant, Stephanie Bonnell. "Anytime that I can do a charity event, that's a bonus for me."

Other event participants say it's a fun way to raise the money for a good cause.

"It's just a different way to see the scenery, to see the sights, go into the woods, and enjoy the comradery," says Linda McKinney.

St. Jude's Research Hospital treats children with cancer and other diseases and is recognized for their cancer research.

The event wrapped up at 5:00 Saturday evening.
