Train Engine Catches Fire in Byron
News

A Norfolk Southern train engine caught fire Sunday afternoon in Byron.

A dispatch operator with Byron Police says the fire was reported at 4:37 p.m. near Boyscout Road.

Fire Chief J.B. Mosbey says it was a small incident.

He says the train had a running fuel fire, due to a fuel leak under the train.

Mosbey says his crew made it to the scene 4 to 5 minutes after receiving the call, but due to quick action by the Norfolk Southern team, the fire was mostly contained at that point.

No one was injured.

Mosbey says Norfolk Southern will send a team to the site later this week to investigate whether the fire caused any environmental impact.
