A Fort Valley State University student died early Thursday in a one-car accident.

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks says it happened sometime after 2 a.m. on Carver Drive, near the college campus.

He said Taylor Moore, age 22, lost control of her car on a curve, overturned and struck a tree.

She died on the scene. No one else was in her vehicle.

Rooks says someone noticed her car around 7 a.m.

Moore, originally from Powder Springs, was a senior communications major and a member of the Alpha Beta chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, according to a news release from the college.

FVSU will be holding a memorial service for Moore at 4 p.m. Thursday at the C.W. Pettigrew Center, followed by a candle lighting ceremony along the Wildcat Plaza near the Greek Walk, the news release states.

"We are devastated by this loss as the death of any member of Fort Valley State's community impacts us all," interim FVSU President Jessica Bailey stated in the news release. "On behalf of the campus community, we offer our sincerest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time."

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating is investigating the accident.
