Accused Fort Valley rapist appears in court

Darrell Ross made his first appearance in Magistrate Court for the new list of charges against him.

They come to a total of 19, including rape, home invasion and aggravated assault. Ross is the man accused in a series of break-ins and rapes in Fort Valley that happened in April.

The judge told Ross the armed robbery charge, kidnapping charge, and rape charges could land him life in prison. He also agreed to a probable cause hearing.

From January to April, there were multiple break-ins, and three women were raped. Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese says the arrest is good news for the community.

"Obviously, it's a relief on all of us that we can sleep better knowing that he's been taken off the street," Deese said. "But then at the same time, it's a cruel world we are living in today now. Don't get complacent. (We have to) be aware of our surroundings and do what it takes to protect ourselves."
