Accused Fort Valley rapist due in court Friday

Darrell Ross is scheduled to make his second court appearance Friday.

That's according to Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese. Ross will face 19 charges including rape, aggravated assault, robbery, and kidnapping, all from five different cases.

The first case happened in January on St. Luke's Lane.

Ross is charged with aggravated sexual battery and home invasion for that case.

And it's a new one that investigators hadn't publicly linked to him until Wednesday this week. A woman who lives on St. Luke's says her friend, who is also her neighbor, was assaulted that night.

Mercedes Jackson says her friend defended herself against the attacker, who ran away before police arrived. Now, Ross is in jail, charged in that break-in.

She says after living in fear for almost 4 months, the community, and her friend can breathe easy.

"It was since January, and it's now the end of May. That time span, it's like, 'Why haven't police caught this man?'" said Jackson,"We see them all day riding up and down the street, but the next morning, 'Oh, another victim,' or another attack. It's just relieving to know that finally some justice has been brought."

Sheriff Deese says the GBI drafted 19 arrest warrants against Ross and planned to have a judge sign them Thursday.

Ross is already in jail after being arrested Sunday for allegedly prowling outside a Fort Valley home.
