Law enforcement in Fort Valley is investigating a new rape case, one attempted rape and five other break-ins, all reported in the past three days.

That comes after a string of reported rapes and break-ins in the city earlier this month.

In the latest case, Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said a Fort Valley State University student said she was raped by an intruder around 1 a.m. in her home on Spencer Street.

Five other people reported break-ins between 3 and 5 a.m. Monday, Deese said. No rapes or attempted rapes were reported in those cases, he said.

And a woman on Julius Simmons Road told 13WMAZ's Sitarah Coote that a man broke into her apartment around 3 a.m. Sunday.

She said she woke up to see him sitting on her couch and then he tried to rape her.

Deese confirmed that they're investigating her report.

In all those cases, he said, the intruder had the same description as the man involved in several earlier cases: He was dressed in black, had his face covered and carried a gun.

Members of a task force met Monday to review the cases.

Several students and residents of Fort Valley say they are on high alert.

"I was very terrified, I couldn't really sleep at night knowing there are several rapes going on right now," said Fort Valley State student Celeste Shaw.

Shaw's roommate says she might have had an encounter with the suspect.

"Well I did have a strange man knock on my door. Of course, I didn't answer it. I wouldn't advise anyone answer the door at any time. If somebody doesn't call or send you a text, if you're not expecting company, do not answer the door," said Kenya Shakoor.

Anyone with information on the case can call the GBI's Perry office at (478) 987-4545.

The GBI, Fort Valley police, the Peach County Sheriff's Office and Fort Valley State University campus police are all involved in the investigation.
