Man fights gunman in Byron robbery

A man allegedly robbed a Byron convenience store at gunpoint overnight.

Around 4:20 a.m. Friday, a man, described as over six feet tall, walked into American Eagle Food Mart with a shotgun and demanding money, according to a release.

An employee's husband was in the store, "grabbed the barrel of the gun and fought with the man."

The gun fired during the tussle, striking the floor.

The man got the intruder outside, where he pulled free and ran back inside. The robber then left.

Byron police say the intruder wore a "large camouflage coat with a hood" and had duct tape on his boot toes. He also had a ball cap with a makeshift mask on his face.
