Cause of Byron Plant Fire Ruled Undetermined | News
State fire officials say the cause of a fire that consumed a sheet metal manufacturer Byron is unknown.
While State Fire Marshal investigators have concluded the cause "undetermined," Byron Fire Chief JD Mosby says, in a news release, "It is possible that paint filters may have spontaneously combusted."
The Byron plant, Southern Perfection Fabrication, caught fire in early May and caused an estimated $1.5 million in loss after 100 firefighters were called to the scene and took about an hour and a half to quell the blaze.
Witnesses and police reported 15 small explosions, which fueled the flames.
None of the plant employees were injured, but three firefighters were injured while battling the blaze.
Demolition is underway and rebuilding plans are in the works after the insurance company declared the building a total loss, according to the release.
