FVSU to Feature Former Real Housewives of Atlanta Star

A "Dress for Success and Legacy Gala Celebration" will be held in the C.W. Pettigrew Center to raise funds for the Mr. Fort Valley State University Foundation.

The event will feature former Real Housewives of Atlanta Lisa Wu-Hartwell.

Tickets are $5 with a student ID, and $15 for general admission.

Crawford County is still scheduled to test the Early Warning Siren system at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

That is according to a Crawford County Emergency Management Agency news release.

MACON – Country icon Tanya Tucker, singer of nine No. 1 hit singles and 29 Top 10 singles, will take the stage at The Grand Opera House on Friday, March 18, at 8 p.m. in downtown Macon. Peach Co. Chamber Celebrates 75th Anniversary

The Peach County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a business after hours.

The after hours is scheduled for February 10 at 6 p.m. and will take place at Khoury's Menswear.

Fine wine and cheese will be available to enjoy. Attendees  are asked to bring business cards for networking and entering door prize drawings.

Crawford Completes Early Warning Sirens

The automated activation system installation for the Early Warning Sirens (EWS) has been completed.

This means that Crawford County can monitor the National Weather System for tornado warnings and will activate Crawford County's EWS sirens when warnings are received, a Crawford County Emergency Management Agency news release says.

The completion of the system's installation corresponds with Governor Deal's proclamation of this week as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia.

The EWS System will be fully tested on Wednesday, February 9 at 1:30 p.m.

All sirens will sound for 3 minutes. The school system plans to activate their Tornado Drill plan, in conjunction with Wednesday marked as Statewide Tornado Drill Day.

February Marks Annual Camellia Festival

The Annual Camellia Festival kicks off in Fort Valley this weekend.

The festival lasts throughout February, the peak time for camellia blooms, according to an American Camellia Society news release.

The American Camellia Society headquarters resides in Central Georgia.

Massee Lane Gardens and the Society headquarters is a non-profit organization to promote camellias.

Saturday, Feb. 5, the gardens and buildings are open free to the public.

Former University of Georgia Athletic Director and Coach Vince Dooley will autograph his gardening book on February 26 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Massee Lane Gardens.

“Anyone can come and go through the gardens,” said Leisa Dortch, gift shop manager and events coordinator at Massee Lane Gardens.

During the month of February,the gardens will be open every day, Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
