Trees to be Dedicated at Arbor Day Ceremony

An Arbor Day Ceremony at South Peach Park at the Ms. Ann Brown Arboretum will take place on Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m.

That's according to the Fort Valley Main Street Downtown Development Authority.

New trees will be dedicated to the Arboretum walkway and present representatives of the 4th Graders of Peach County as they receive a tree seedling.  


Salmander Springs Farm Hosts Homestead Tour

A guided tour of Salamander Springs Farm, a 50-acre homestead owned by Debby Waugh will take place February 25 at 10:30 a.m. Waugh will conduct the tour.

The homestead has been in development 15 years, since Waugh first bought the land, a Davis Farms news release says.

The entire homestead is an "off the grid" homestead, using solar power and conservation techniques to reduce the footprint of the homestead. Debby is a Certified Permaculturist, and has hosted over 300 volunteers since she first started.

Carpools from Roberta and Macon will be organized.

Historic Mural Kicks Off

The Byron mural project will kick off on Saturday, March 26.

Better Hometown's Regina Mansfield says the project is in the design phase.

They are still recruiting artists.

Mansfield says 30 artists have been recruited for the project so far.

A supply pick up date is in the process of being scheduled. All supplies will be provided for artists.

Mansfield says they are also recruiting helpers who can rinse out brushes or assist artists with anything they need.

She expects the project to take two months to complete.

Sketches of the mural have been sketched, Mansfield says the mural will look like postcards scattered across the back of the Cow and the Calf Art Gallery.

The mural is a collaboration between the Cow and the Calf Art Gallery and Sugar Oaks and will be 600 feet wide.

Community Action Agency to Hold Foreclosure Workshop

Middle Georgia Community Action Agency (MGCAA) will hold a Foreclosure Prevention Workshop on February 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The workshop will be held at Cam Campbell Community Center located at 110 Oak Grove Rd. in Warner Robins.

That is according to a MGCAA news release.

This free workshop is open to anyone wishing to speak with a HUD-certified counselor or want to learn more about home retention programs.

“Persons behind on their mortgage payments will benefit from this workshop, also.

The workshop will cover loan modifications, what one can do to keep their home from going into foreclosure, and the foreclosure process,” says Elcana Southall, HUD-certified Housing Counselor for MGCAA.

There is no charge for this workshop and all materials will be provided.

Minor League Pro Football Team Hosts Tryouts

Peach State Minor League Pro Football Tryouts will take place February 19 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

The tryout fee is $25, cash only.

The Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale is scheduled to take place March 11 and 12.

Accotding to the website, the Peaches to the Beaches Annual Yard Sale now covers over 200 miles from Barnesville and Culloden to Brunswick and the Golden Isles in Georgia.
