FVSU Basketball to Host Free Camp

On Saturday, July 16, 2011 the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Basketball Program will host a free basketball camp for children ages 9 – 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Health & Physical Education Complex on the FVSU campus.

That's according to a FVSU news release.

The camp will feature instruction from legendary FVSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lonnie Bartley and high school coaches from the surrounding area.  Both women and men players from the FVSU Basketball Program will assist in the teaching of basketball fundamentals such as dribbling, shooting, passing, offensive and defensive positioning, and basketball strategies.

“The one-day camp is our way of reaching out to the children in our community, said Bartley.  I have always maintained that the lessons learned in the game of basketball often mirror those of real life.  By exposing local kids to the game’s fundamentals, we are hopeful that they will not only develop a life-long appreciation for the sport but also take the lessons learned from basketball and apply them to their daily lives.”

Camp registration is from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.  Participants should dress in basketball attire and either bring their own lunch or be prepared to pay for lunch.

For more information, please contact Coach Bartley at 478-825-6622.
