Warner Robins – Organizers announced today that they expect nearly 200 attendees at the 2nd Annual Kids and Pros youth football camp to be held at Tanner Park on Carl Vinson Parkway June 6-9 from 6-9 pm. Though it is too late for online registration, walk-up registrations will be accepted at 5:30 pm on Monday for those with cash or cashier’s checks (no personal checks).

“The local community has really stepped up this year,” said community leader Keith Lauritsen. “Because of the great financial support, we can serve a full camp of 200 attendees between the ages of 7 and 13.” Local fundraising efforts allowed Kids and Pros to “scholarship” some young attendees who were not able to pay for the camp, according to Lauritsen.

The second year’s attendance builds upon the nearly 120 players who participated in 2010, Lauritsen added. “We always knew this was a sports-minded and caring community and this camp is even more evidence of that fact.”

19 coaches will cover the field at Tanner Park to instruct the players in football fundamentals next week, but Kids and Pros Founder Buddy Curry says the camp is also about life lessons. “We’ll have speakers at the end of each night to encourage and support these young athletes,” said Curry.

New to the camp coaching staff this year will be Tim Walker who played for the Seattle Seahawks and Roger Jackson of Macon who played for the Denver Broncos. Curry will lead a contingent of former pros and very dedicated local coaches and former players who want to give back to the Houston County community.

“Our attendees get the best in football instruction, but we believe the life lessons impact them on a much deeper basis,” said Curry. “Our strongest positive feedback from 2010 came from parents who stayed around and heard us present these lessons to their kids. What we offer goes far beyond the basic fundamentals of the game of football.”

Another special event this year will be a Thursday night presentation to the participants’ parents who come out to the field. That presentation will be made by the mother of a former NFL player who will discuss the life lessons of a “Football Mom.”

Curry said: “Our philosophy at Kids & Pros is bringing communities together through a series of week-long football experiences." “We intend to develop character and skills through athletics," he added.

Kids & Pros was started with one youth football camp in 2002 and has now conducted more than 40 camps with exciting, life-changing experiences over the past nine years.
