Peach Valley Winery Opens in Byron

A second winery opened its doors in Byron just before 2012 ended.

Peach Valley Winery is located at 311 Highway 49 North, Suite 16 in the Peach Shops at Byron.

Peach Valley Winery is available for special events & receptions.

They are open seven days a week.

They offer wine tastings of fine vinifera wines like Cabernet Savnignon, Merlot and Pinot Grigio and also many of the finest, healthful red and white Georgia muscadine wines.

Meiko to Perform at Cox Capitol Theatre Saturday

Meiko, the rising pop star from Roberta performs at Cox Capitol Theatre on December 22. Tickets are $10 and benefit five-year-old Kade Howard who has brain cancer. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Meiko (pronounced Mee-ko) is a Roberta-native whose second major label record release, “The Bright Side," is getting a lot of attention. The album, on Meiko's Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group label, blends a folk-pop approach with fluid interjections of electronic beats. You may have already experienced Meiko's music in shows like "Grey's Anatomy," "One Tree Hill" and "Pretty Little Liars."

13WMAZ’s Jacqueline Harnevious caught up with Meiko by phone to talk about music and her roots in Central Georgia.

Nightmare on Byron's Main Street Features Trick-or-Treating

 Warning, be on the lookout for ghouls, goblins, ghosts and more on Wednesday, October 31st because that is when NIGHTMARE on MAIN STREET takes place!

The Byron Rotary Club will be having a costume contest in the gazebo at Jailhouse Park at 5:30 and trick or treating on Main Street takes place from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

If your business or organization would like to hand out candy please contact Tiffany at 956-5555 to reserve a space on Main Street.

There is no fee and is a great way to let the community know youare here. Have fun with it….dress up and be creative! If you want tosee what nearly 5,000 folks in Halloween attire looks like then headout to Night Mare on Main Street!

Students Invited to FVSU for 4-H Field Day, Football Game

 

Fort Valley, Ga. - FFA advisors, 4-H leaders and youth groups are urged to gather their students for the 2 p.m. 4-H/FFA Ag Field Day Sept. 22 at Fort Valley State University.

The purpose of the event is to introduce middle and high school students to majors offered by FVSU’s College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology. The $5 registration fee includes a T-shirt, a meal and a ticket to the FVSU versus Benedict College football game at 6 p.m. The registration deadline is Sept.10.

Scheduled activities at Founders Hall include video gaming, football toss, corn hole toss and ladder ball. Students can also see a biofuel-making demonstration and tour FVSU’s Life on the Farm exhibition, which has animals to teach students about agriculture.
