More than 400 Camellia Flowers on Display in Fort Valley
News

Hundreds of camellia blooms are on display in Fort Valley this weekend. The flowers only bloom in cold weather, and are often called "The Winter's Rose."

The judges have already chosen the top three camellias based on the color, size, and style of the bloom.  Executive Director of the Camellia Society, Celeste Richard, says the perfect bloom has no bugs or spots, and has the same amount of flowers on the top and bottom.

Richard says her favorite part is seeing how many different blooms the flower holds.

"It's just nice to see that variety," she says. "They all go from miniature, the size of a quarter, to extra large, the size of your hand.  It's nice to see that diversity."

There's no charge to see the camellias. The blooms will be on display Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Camellia Society also has camellia plants for sale. You can buy a three gallon plant for around $26, depending on the type. One and two gallon plants are also for sale.
