Fort Valley Ceremony Honors Veterans
News

Some folks got together to honor about a dozen veterans in a Fort Valley ceremony Sunday.

Fort Valley Police Sgt. Roy Thompson spoke to the group at Everett Square Park.  He explained how he adjusted to life after his time at war and shared his experiences during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

As part of the event, a local boy scout troop along with some of the veterans, retired about 40 American flags.

Organizer James Earnhardit says they burn the flags when they become old and torn.

Thompson says Sunday's ceremony is just one way to honor those who protect our country.

"Remember our veterans.  It's very important that we honor those that have gone before us.  Not just the folks that were killed in action, but also those that are still missing, and remember those that have served and thank them for their service," says Thompson.

American Legion Post 76 sponsored the annual event.
