Burglar Steals $10,000 in Peach County Ticket Receipts

A burglar broke into the Peach County High School early Wednesday and stole about $10,000 in football ticket receipts, Fort Valley police say.

They say the Peach County High coaches and players discovered the theft around 7 a.m. when they arrived for practice.

The money was for advance ticket sales for Friday's playoff game against Fulton County's Grady High School.

Fort Valley police and the GBI are investigating, and tracking dogs are being used.

Police Major Lawrence Sturgeon wrote, "It's hard for me to fathom that anyone from our community would do anything to harm these kids in the midst of their historic playoff run. Our football team has brought so much pride to this city and county and the players and students don't deserve to have to deal with such an attack. We along with the GBI and the Peach County Sheriffs Dept. have committed all our resources to finding out who is responsible for this crime. We welcome anyone who might have any information to call the Fort Valley Police Dept."

Anyone with information on the case can call police at (478) 825-3384.
